The TCU and West Virginia game was a great showdown of Big 12 newbies

West Virginia has been in some barnburner games this season, but Saturday's 39-38 double-overtime loss to fellow Big 12 newcomer TCU is one that could ultimately create a rivalry between these two teams.

At least that's the way the game was played, especially in the final couple minutes and overtime, which made this game one of the most exciting of the day.

TCU and West Virginia matched each other score for score until TCU quarterback Brandon Carter found Josh Boyce on 2-poimt conversion in the second overtime - a gutsy call by coach Gary Patterson - to give the Horned Frogs the improbable win and make them bowl eligible (Check out the 1:30 mark in the video).

The play actually had to be reviewed because there was question whether Boyce caught it cleanly or used the ground to trap it. In the end, there wasn't enough evidence to overturn the call.

"I'm one of those people who believes when you play someone on the road you have to go take ball games,'' Patterson said of the decision to go for the 2-point conversion. "If you just play around and see what happens, you get things like the [Austin] punt return.''

The video shows the entire sequence of events starting with a Tavon Austin punt return for West Virginia with 3:19 remaining to Boyce's 94-yard touchdown catch and run to send the game into overtime to the dramatic second-overtime finish.

This was really one of the great games in the conference this year, but I think that could be said about a lot of West Virginia's games this season.

West Virginia, which was coming off a bye week, has lost three straight and has dropped to seventh in the conference after leading it for several weeks at the beginning of the season.
