Suspended Notre Dame CB KeiVarae Russell speaks out on academic investigation

KeiVarae Russell is one of five Notre Dame players who have been sitting out this season amid an ongoing university investigation into alleged academic fraud. The standout cornerback posted to his Instagram account Wednesday saying that he recently had his hearing regarding potential academic dishonesty.

He said the hearing went well, but that was not all he had to say.

Per CSN Chicago:

“Noooo, still not back. It sucks. Hearing went well in my opinion though. Was able to express my case from my POV and bring to light a lot of what was false “evidence.” But they are making me wait till every hearing is done to make a decision… it sucks.”

In another comment from Tuesday, Russell said he was able to “refute” many suspicions the school had, but a final decision won’t come until all five players are met with.

He also posted this message on Wednesday.

In addition to Russell, hearings for wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, linebacker Kendall Moore, defensive end Ishaq Williams, and defensive back Eilar Hardy are also being conducted by the school. These players have not practiced with the team since the allegations arose in mid-August when evidence emerged that others may have written papers and completed homework assignments for them.

Daniels, Russell and Williams were listed as starters coming into the season.

Decisions on their statuses are expected soon.
