Report: Texas to settle lawsuit involving OSU and Joe Wickline

Texas may not be going to court over the lawsuit with Oklahoma State.

According to HornsDigest.com, Texas has started the process of settling the $600,000 suit. The suit is part of a contract dispute with Oklahoma State and current Texas assistant coach Joe Wickline. The school brought the suit against Wickline as part of a breach of contract claim.

Wickline left his post at Oklahoma State and went to Texas when Charlie Strong was hired before the 2014 season. As part of his contract, he had to be the primary play-caller at his new employer, otherwise he owed the university a buyout.

From Horns Digest:

Perrin said Saturday he was reading pleadings in the case. And on Monday, sources said, Ohlendorf reached out to Ok State attorneys about their willingness to settle.

The suit is expected to be settled for roughly $300,000 by the end of the month, sources said.

If that happens, it will have taken Perrin roughly a month to accomplish what former Texas AD Steve Patterson refused to do since March of 2014, sources told HD.

Wickline is listed as the team's offensive coordinator while Watson is listed as the assistant head coach for offense. Strong has said both coaches were playcallers for the offense, though Oklahoma State was contending Watson was the main person who called plays.

Assistant coach Jay Norvell has currently taken over Watson's role with play-calling in the offense.

Patterson parted ways with the university in September. While he was in charge, the lawsuit seemed destined for court. Strong, Watson and Wickline even were deposed in March 2015 as part of the case. In his deposition, Strong momentarily forgot quarterback Tyrone Swoopes' name. Swoopes has been replaced as Texas' starting quarterback in 2015 by Jerrod Heard.
