Report: Colorado and Colorado State eyeing home-and-home series

The rivalry series between Colorado and Colorado State could resume in seven years.

The two schools are reportedly planning to play each other in 2023 and 2024. According to the Coloradoan, nothing is official yet, but athletic directors from the two schools have been meeting to get the rivalry rekindled after what would be a two-year hiatus.

"From my perspective, with the on-campus stadium and with what they've been doing for a while, I think the neutral-site play in Denver has kind of run its course," [Colorado State athletic director John] Parker said. "When you look across the country and you see the institutions of our profile in the same state that play one another, it's kind of just an electric week of football within those states. I think of Michigan-Michigan State. I think of, when they did play it, Texas and Texas A&M. Oklahoma-Oklahoma State; those rivalries that I've been a part of.

"It seems natural for us to do it. I love the idea that we're going to bring it back to campus. ... I've been here 15 months now and I'm so proud of this campus and this community; I want to show it off. I want people throughout this state to understand what Colorado State means and what this community of Fort Collins is."

The games in 2023 and 2024 would be a home-and-home series. The current rivalry, set to run through the 2020 season is scheduled to be played in Denver at Mile High Stadium until 2019. The game in 2020 will be at Colorado State at the Rams' new on-campus football stadium.

Colorado athletic director Rick George had said in 2015 that it was in his school's best interest to end the series when the current contract concludes in 2020. The two-year hiatus, per the Coloradoan, would be because both teams have already filled their non-conference schedules for those seasons.

Colorado leads the rivalry series 63-22-2.
