Report: Assault charges against Rutgers WR Leonte Carroo to be dropped

The woman involved in the domestic dispute with Rutgers receiver Leonte Carroo has agreed to drop a request for a restraining order and will ask the court to dismiss a simple assault charge against Carroo, according to a report on NJ.com.

The site cited an agreement between the two parties.

The woman, who had a former dating relationship with Carroo, said Carroo allegedly slammed her to the ground during an altercation outside the football stadium following the 37-34 loss to Washington State. The altercation involved Carroo’s current girlfriend, who is also is suing the woman.

Carroo has been serving a suspension since Sept. 13 pending the resolution of the matter.

Carroo and the alleged victim appeared in Family Court on Tuesday and the alleged victim told the judge she was dropping the restraining order voluntarily. The two also have to appear in Piscataway municipal court to address the simple assault charge.

William Gonzalez, an attorney for the woman, said the alleged victim had agreed with Carroo’s lawyers to drop the simple assault charge.

"We're probably going down that route," Gonzalez told NJ.com.

Carroo’s attorney’s told NJ.com that they hoped the resolution of this case meant Carroo could return to the field for Saturday’s game against No. 4 Michigan State.

Even after missing two games, Carroo remains the team’s leading receiver in terms of yardage with seven catches for 181 yards and three touchdowns.
