Report: 'No indication' Waco PD told Baylor about 2013 Oakman report
Was Baylor notified by the Waco Police Department of a 2013 assault allegation against former defensive end Shawn Oakman?
Per a Waco PD spokesperson to the Waco Tribune, there is "no indication" that the department told the school about a police report involving Oakman and the alleged victim. Oakman is accused of shoving a woman into walls and cabinets at her apartment in January of 2013.
However, the spokesperson said that if the police told the university, it may not be logged in the incident report anyway. From the Tribune:
Swanton said there is no indication that a Waco police officer notified any Baylor employee about the incident report. Swanton also said if an officer had contacted Baylor, it would not necessarily be included in the report. He said there is no requirement for Waco police to notify any Baylor employee when a student or student-athlete is named in any police report.
“Some of the officers have different working relationships with some of the Baylor folks and will pass things along from time to time,” Swanton said. “Sometimes we share information on cases that involve their students, and sometimes we don’t. There’s no reason why we do or don’t, and again, there’s no formal policy and requirement or law that says we have to.”
Oakman was arrested earlier in April regarding accusations of sexual assault. The 2013 incident allegedly stemmed from comments from another woman on the alleged victim's Instagram posts.

The alleged victim told police she did not want to press charges. The report notes bruising on her arms and a swollen lip. The Tribune notes that Baylor officials have not responded to requests for comment regarding their knowledge of the 2013 accusations against Oakman.
Two former Baylor players – Tevin Elliott and Sam Ukwuachu – are currently incarcerated after being found guilty on rape charges. An Outside the Lines report earlier in April detailed sexual assault allegations against two former members of the Baylor football team including tight end Tre'Von Armstead.
Armstead was dismissed from the team in September for what was termed a violation of team rules. According to the OTL report, the dismissal came at the same time a Title IX investigation into the accusations started.
