Pitt RB James Conner, fighting cancer, back on practice field (Video)

Pittsburgh running back James Conner was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in December, but that hasn’t stopped him from participating in the Panthers’ winter conditioning.

Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi posted a video of Conner going full speed during drills on Saturday morning. He looks like he hasn’t lost a step.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a treatable form of cancer and Conner has been receiving chemotherapy treatments at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The school’s athletic department is helping Conner’s family pay for his medical care.

Conner rushed for 1,765 yards and 26 touchdowns and won ACC Player of the Year in 2014, but missed the majority of the 2015 campaign with a knee injury.

He was still working his way from the knee injury when the cancer diagnosis was revealed. The knee appears to be healthy, as evidenced by Narduzzi’s video.

Narduzzi said earlier this month that he expects Conner to be ready to play for the Panthers in 2016.

Though he wasn't impressed by his own performance, Conner agrees that he will be back on the field.
