Oregon St. safety who started 8 games in 2015 transfers to Montana

A key player from Oregon State's 2015 defense is transferring to an FCS school.

Justin Strong started eight games for the Beavers last season. He's going to play the 2016 season at Montana. The team announced his transfer on Tuesday.

"We love his physicality. That's the thing that jumps out on tape," Montana defensive coordinator Jason Semore said in a statement. "He's not the biggest guy in the world, but you can see, watching his Pac-12 tape, that he's a really explosive athlete. I think he fits in to our scheme and what we're going to ask him to do in this league very well. I think at the end of the day that's what drew Justin to the Montana program is how he fits our defensive scheme."

Since he's transferring down a level, Strong is eligible to play immediately. He was a redshirt sophomore in 2015 and had 54 tackles.

According to OregonLive.com, Strong left the Beavers because of personal reasons and he's the seventh player to transfer from the team this offseason. Linebacker Rommel Mageo, who had 87 tackles in 2015, transferred to Ole Miss. Quarterback Seth Collins transferred to Northern Illinois.

Oregon State finished 2-10 in 2015.
