Ole Miss LB C.J. Johnson suffers torn meniscus, out 4-6 weeks

Ole Miss middle linebacker C.J. Johnson suffered a torn meniscus in his left kneeduring the Rebels' 38-10 loss to Florida last Saturday and underwent surgery Tuesday to repair the damage.

He’s expected to miss four to six weeks.

Johnson posted a message on his Facebook page Tuesday morning thanking everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

“The best thing I love about playing sports is that it challenges your guts and determination,” Johnson wrote on Facebook and later posted to Twitter. “When the game knocked you down you get up and keep fighting.

“Thank you to all my family and friends who has prayed for me through this difficult time. Hopefully my surgery will go well and I’ll be able to be back with my brothers soon. Thank you for all your support Rebel Nation.”

Coach Hugh Freeze confirmed the injury and the surgery during his press conference.

Johnson had 17 tackles, two interceptions and one pass breakup despite missing the season opener because of suspension.

Terry Caldwell is the favorite to replace Johnson in Saturday’s game against New Mexico State. Caldwell has appeared in five games this season and has made eight tackles and forced a fumble.
