Ole Miss AD says NCAA investigation has finished

Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork said the NCAA's investigation into his school is done.

The Rebels have been accused of 28 NCAA violations, 13 of which involve the football program. The investigation took over three years and there shouldn't be any additional allegations against the athletic department.

"I'm confident in our process," Bjork told the Jackson Clarion-Ledger on Wednesday. "I'm confident in our defense, and I'm confident in our positions.

According to the Associated Press, nine of the 13 football allegations allegedly happened under the watch of current Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze. Bjork told the CL that Freeze has not been named in any wrongdoing. He also said that the NCAA process could be further along if it wasn't for the suspension of offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil.

“I believe I can say this without compromising anything, we were pretty much done until the Laremy Tunsil stuff bubbled up last summer,”

Tunsil served a suspension of seven games in 2015 for impermissible benefits. The NCAA ruled in October that he received a “four-month interest-free promissory note on a $3,000 down payment for purchasing a used vehicle, two nights of lodging at a local home, an airline ticket purchased by a friend of a teammate, and one day use of a rental vehicle.” The NCAA also dinged him for not immediately admitting the infractions.

The Clarion-Ledger said it had made a Freedom of Information Act request to obtain the notice of allegations from the NCAA regarding the violations but the school has fought to prevent the release of the document for individuals' privacy reasons.

While the school got the notice of allegations almost three weeks ago, this matter is far from resolved. The Rebels have 90 days to rebuke the NCAA's allegations. The NCAA has 60 days after Ole Miss' report to make a summary. Then, if Ole Miss does not agree with the NCAA on what happened, the NCAA's committee on infractions gets involved.
