An explosive kick returner just hit the transfer market.

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops announced Friday that running back Alex Ross will pursue a graduate transfer. Ross, who was a redshirt junior for the Sooners last season, is set to graduate from OU next week and will be immediately eligible at his next school.

Ross averaged 31.2 yards and scored twice on kickoff returns while also adding 595 yards and four scores rushing in 2014. He again was solid as a returner in 2015, averaging 21.5 yards on 30 attempts, but fell to No. 3 on the running back depth chart behind Semaje Perine and Joe Mixon and finished with 172 yards and a touchdown on only 32 carries.

Stoops indicated that the 6-foot-1, 227-pound Ross hopes to see more action at running back in his final year of college football.

“Alex has been a great teammate and team guy for four years for us, and we’ve always been proud of him,” Stoops said in a release. “This is an opportunity for him to go somewhere else and play full time. We wish him the best.”

Ross ranks third in Oklahoma history in kickoff return average (25.7) and his 1,363 yards are just 301 yards away from the program’s all-time record for kickoff return yards. Ross also caught 11 passes for 66 yards for the Sooners.
