Nebraska parts with new PA announcer after discovery of Facebook post

Nebraska said Monday it had hired a new PA announcer for Memorial Stadium. A day later it had to replace its replacement.

According to KETV in Omaha, former station sports director John Schuetz said he was told he no longer had the job as the PA announcer because of a now-deleted "social media post" that was critical of the school's decision to fire Bo Pelini in November 2014.

From KETV:

In a conversation with KETV NewsWatch 7, Schuetz said Tuesday he was told the University was going in a different direction.

Schuetz said he understands the University's position, and has no animosity about its decision to look for another announcer.

The post was reportedly on Facebook. The school said Tuesday that Lane Grindle, the sideline reporter for radio broadcasts, would be Schuetz's replacement.

Schuetz was set to be the replacement for former announcer Patrick Combs, who was fired after he was charged with stealing over $350,000 from two elderly women.

The charges against Combs include theft and adult abuse and he faces up to 70 years in jail. According to one affadavit, Combs used money from the checking account of a woman with dementia to make improvements to his lake house and pay off a car loan.

Nebraska opens the season at home September 5 against BYU. And hopefully the school already did all of its vetting on Grindle. While it may seem petty to disqualify someone from a position because of a tweet, it's not nearly as big of a deal if the decision is made before the person is hired.
