Nebraska coach Bo Pelini randomly has some choice words about the evils of marijuana

It’s Friday morning and a perfect time to take a moment to listen to Nebraska coach Bo Pelini rail against the evils of marijuana.

During the Big Red Breakfast on Friday morning, Pelini decided to go on a tangent from the usual celebration of the season opener against Florida Atlantic to tell the 250 people in attendance about the dangers of marijuana in our society.

“Let’s face it, it’s not OK,” Pelini said. “I think everybody that’s our age, my age, hopefully understands that it’s not OK. It’s not good. It’s not good for you. And these kids do it on a daily basis and a yearly basis … and it’s a real problem out there.

“Fortunately for us it is not (an issue) in our program. But I can tell you around college football and college athletics … serious in college. I guarantee you walk into dorms nowadays and it is a horrible problem.”

Pelini, who will probably never get a coaching job in Colorado or Washington where pot is legal, added: “It is out of control.”

I wonder what it was like for the 250 people who showed up to get a season preview from the head coach and ended up at a D.A.R.E. meeting?

We’re not here to judge Pelini on his politics — we really don’t care — just the timing of his tangent and perhaps the fact that his brother, Carl Pelini, was fired from Florida Atlantic last season because he failed to report drug use by his staff members.

Oh, and as an aside, Nebraska does have a scholarship offer out for wide receiver Cordell Broadus, son of Snoop Lion, a big advocate of the sticky icky icky.
