Update: 3/15 1 p.m. ET

Claiborne issued a statement via LSU athletics claiming he had no knowledge his ring was on eBay.

“I was not aware that my LSU ring from the 2011 season was being auctioned on eBay until I saw a post about it yesterday afternoon on social media. I love LSU and treasure all of my LSU possessions. I would never sell any of my LSU memorabilia as the time I spent on the LSU campus are some of my most special memories. The ring was taken from me without my knowledge and I’ve taken the necessary steps to get it back. I truly apologize to all LSU fans, teammates, coaches and supporters for this unfortunate situation. I am forever an LSU Tiger.”

The championship season ring belonging to former LSU cornerback Mo Claiborne has been listed on eBay with an opening price of $100,000.

There is no real description of the item, but there are four pictures, including one of the side of the ring that bears Claiborne’s last name.

LSU won the SEC title, which earned it a berth in the BCS title game against Alabama. The Tigers went on to lose that title game to the Tide 21-0. Both events are celebrated on the sides of the ring.

Claiborne was the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft and has just finished his fourth season with the Dallas Cowboys. It is a little odd that the ring hit eBay shortly before Claiborne signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Cowboys. He was given a $500,000 signing bonus and his new deal includes incentives worth $1 million.

In 2015, the Cowboys declined to pick up Claiborne’s fifth-year option mostly because he’s had trouble staying healthy. He has not played a complete season during his professional career.

Claiborne has three interceptions and 22 pass breakups with the Cowboys.

Claiborne was an All-SEC pick and won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s best defensive back in 2011.

** Correction: The ring was incorrectly referred to as a national championship ring. This ring commemorates the Tigers' season.
