Memphis QB Paxton Lynch declares for the NFL draft

Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch will forgo his senior season and declare for the NFL draft.

Lynch, a junior, announced his decision during a press conference Thursday. Lynch noted in a statement that he intends to finish his degree at Memphis.

Lynch completed 66.8 percent of his passes this season for 3,778 yards, 28 touchdowns and four interceptions. However, he had the worst game of his season during Wednesday’s 31-10 loss to Auburn in the Birmingham Bowl. In that game, Lynch completed 16 of 37 passes for 108 yards and an interception. It was only the second time this season Lynch failed to throw a touchdown pass.

Lynch also announced that he’s retained agents Leigh Steinberg and Chris Cabbott.

Draft analysts project Lynch to be the first quarterback taken in the 2016 draft.
