Mark Richt donating $1 million to Miami's indoor facility

New Miami coach Mark Richt is making a big donation to his alma mater.

Richt is donating $1 million towards the construction of an indoor practice facility for the Hurricanes. Miami recently announced plans to build one and the Hurricanes are currently the only ACC team without an indoor facility built or currently under construction.

Per CaneSport, Richt told boosters in Chicago last week that he was making the donation. From Miami's Rivals site:

Sources also told CaneSport that Miami is hoping to have the approximate $10 million that it needs pledged to get the pre-construction process of the approximate $27 million project started before the beginning of the 2016 football season as it targets completion before the start of the 2018 season.

Miami is playing catchup on the indoor facility arms race among ACC schools but the plans coming together are evidence that won't be the case very long. Preliminary renderings have been displayed for prospective donors, current players and recruits and Richt has taken an active role to insure that every major detail is covered in the planning stage.

Richt was hired by the Hurricanes after Al Golden was fired in the middle of the 2015 season. Richt parted ways with Georgia after 15 seasons at the end of 2015 and was replaced by former Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart.

Richt is a native of Boca Raton, Florida, and played quarterback at Miami. He served as Jim Kelly's backup and graduated in 1982.
