LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron confirmed Friday that he was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Cameron told reporters he was diagnosed "a couple weeks ago," but underwent treatment and has since been given "a clean bill of health." Cameron has been coaching with "very few limitations" throughout preseason practice and will coach the 2015 season, he said.

The 54-year-old Cameron, who is entering his third season with the program, said the entire situation from the initial diagnosis to Friday was about a "four-week process." He expressed gratitude for the support he's received from the program.

"The support from this program and our players and (head) coach (Les) Miles, I've never experienced anything quite like it," he said.

Tigers head coach Les Miles also addressed reporters Friday, and said he asked the team to keep quiet about Cameron's diagnosis. Miles said the team did "a great job" keeping the news private.

"We've really respected the rights of coach Cameron in every way," Miles said.

The Tigers put up a program record 543.3 yards per game in Cameron’s first year as offensive coordinator in 2013. The team also totaled 5,893 yards that season – second best in program history.

Playing behind two inexperienced quarterbacks, the 2014 LSU offense was a different story. The Tigers averaged 387.5 yards per game with only 162 of those yards coming via the pass.

The news of Cameron's diagnosis comes a week before LSU opens its season against McNeese State. After the McNeese State game, the Tigers have back-to-back SEC games at Mississippi State and at home versus Auburn.

To disuade any perceived limitations, Cameron made it clear Friday that he has moved his focus toward the season.

Added Miles: "He's ready to go."

Before his time at LSU, Cameron was an assistant at Michigan and the head coach at Indiana. In the NFL, he had a one-year stint as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins and assistant gigs with the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers and Baltimore Ravens.

In two seasons with Cameron serving as offensive coordinator, the Tigers are 18-8 and 9-7 in the SEC.
