Louisiana Tech QB Scotty Young leaves football team, says he's ready to move on

Scotty Young started six games last season for Louisiana Tech. He won't be starting any in 2014 after he announced Tuesday that he would be leaving the football team and won't play his senior season for the Bulldogs.

“I am graduating this summer and am ready to move on to the next chapter of my life,” Young said in a statement “Football has been a really good journey but sometimes you have to know when to end it. I have loved the experience and will cherish these memories forever. I want to thank the old staff for allowing me the opportunity to come to Louisiana Tech and I want to thank Coach Holtz and his staff for giving me the opportunity to stay here and earn my degree. It has been a great experience for me, one in which I have enjoyed every moment of.”

Young transferred from Texas Tech before the 2012 season. He sat out that year and in 2013 was 87-165 for 733 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

Earlier in March, former Iowa QB Cody Sokol transferred to Louisiana Tech. He will be immediately eligible in 2014 after he graduates from Iowa in May.

He'll battle redshirt sophomore Ryan Higgins for the starting job in 2014. Along with Young, Higgins took the majority of snaps in Saturday's spring game. Last season, Higgins was 166-281 passing for 1.715 yards, six touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
