Les Miles and Skip Holtz lose finalist Indiana in Dr. Saturday’s Coaches Bracket Challenge

The first half of the Sweet 16 was a brutal, brutal day for our coaches in the inaugural Bracket Challenge. With Indiana and Miami going down, coaches lost Final Four teams, and in the case of LSU’s Les Miles and Louisiana Tech’s Skip Holtz, final teams as well.

Since each coach managed to get just one pick correct, Holtz remained in the lead followed by Miles and Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy. Despite the deficit, Miles still has the best shot of winning because three of his four Final Four teams are still intact heading into tonight’s games. However, if Louisville loses, all three coaches will lose their champion. Both Gundy and Holtz have Louisville as their lone remaining Final Four team.

This has definitely been a tough March Madness for all of our coaches. Initially, it looked like Gundy might have the inside track because he picked a couple of the underdogs, but some major upsets knocked him back pretty early.

Holtz is living off some stellar picks from the first and second rounds, but Miles is not that far behind especially if Florida and Louisville can win tonight.

Here’s how the coaches fared in the first half of the Sweet 16:

Skip Holtz
Correct: Marquette
Incorrect: Ohio State, Wichita State, Syracuse
Total points: 52

Les Miles
Correct: Ohio State
Incorrect: Wichita State, Marquette, Syracuse
Total points: 46

Mike Gundy
Correct: Syracuse
Incorrect: Wichita State, Marquette, Ohio State
Total Points: 41

In the Sweet 16, each game is worth four points so there’s room to improve.

Here are the picks for Friday. If the coach does not have a team in the mix, it’s noted with the word “OUT”
