Les Miles closes the gap on Skip Holtz in Dr. Saturday’s Coaches Bracket Challenge

Somewhere, Mike Gundy was cursing Kansas last night.

The Jayhawks had a 10-point lead against Michigan late, allowed Trey Burke to tie the game with a 3-pointer at the end of regulation and then lost by two in overtime. It was one of the most unbelievable comebacks/collapses in NCAA Tournament history.

What’s worse is that Gundy, Oklahoma State's football coach, was the only one of our three coaches that had Kansas advancing to the Elite Eight and now he has just two – two – teams remaining in the tournament.

Meanwhile LSU coach Les Miles had our first perfect day. That’s right, in the two weeks we’ve been doing this, none of our coaches have had a perfect day until Miles swept the second half of the Sweet 16 to move two points within our leader, Louisiana Tech coach Skip Holtz.

Dr. Saturday’s Coaches Bracket Challenge is definitely going to come down to the wire.

Miles still has three Final Four teams remaining. Holtz and Gundy both have just one.

Here’s how the coaches fared in the second half of the Sweet 16:

Skip Holtz
Correct: Louisville, Duke, Michigan
Incorrect: Florida
Total points: 64

Les Miles
Correct: Louisville, Duke, Michigan, Florida
Incorrect: None.
Total points: 62

Mike Gundy
Correct: Louisville
Incorrect: Duke, Michigan, Florida
Total Points: 45

In the Elite 8, each game is worth eight points. Unfortunately for Holtz and Gundy, Miles is the only one with a team playing in this first half of the Elite 8.

Here are the picks for Saturday (for real this time). If the coach does have a team in the mix, it’s noted with the word “OUT”
