Kansas QB Montell Cozart out indefinitely, Deondre Ford out for season

Kansas is going to be starting a true freshman quarterback against Baylor.

The Jayhawks announced Monday that Montell Cozart, the team's starter at the beginning of the season, is out indefinitely. Backup quarterback Deondre Ford is out for the season.

The attrition leaves freshman Ryan Willis as the team's starting quarterback. Willis has attempted 18 passes in 2015 and completed eight. He has 100 yards passing and no touchdowns or interceptions.

Cozart is 66-of-105 passing for 752 yards, 2 touchdowns and an interception. Ford is 11-of-23 passing for 132 yards and an interception. Cozart is also the Jayhawks' second-leading rusher. He has 113 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Cozart was named the team's starting quarterback because Michael Cummings was injured during the Jayhawks' spring game. Cummings suffered a torn left ACL.

Kansas is 0-4 and currently listed as a 42-point underdog to the Bears. The Jayhawks lost 38-13 to Iowa State on Saturday.

The Jayhawks aren't the only team in the state with quarterback injury issues. Kansas State was forced to play fifth-string quarterback and wide receiver Kody Cook on Saturday against Oklahoma State after Joe Hubener was knocked out of the game in the first half. Cook was injured in the second half and Hubener returned to the game.

KSU starting quarterback Jesse Ertz was hurt on the first play of the season.
