Heisman Watch Week 9: LSU's Leonard Fournette out in front of pack

The college football season is through Week 8, which means we have enough data to start thinking about legitimate Heisman contenders.

Every week, Dr. Saturday will name its five Heisman contenders in order with our favorite on top. As we saw last year, the list can change pretty quickly depending on the week.

LSU's Leonard Fournette has been the Heisman favorite from the third week of the season and he’s done nothing since to lessen his chances. He rushed for 150 yards against Western Kentucky last week, which was his "worst" performance of the season.

However, Fournette will have his toughest test on Nov. 7 when he takes on an Alabama defense that’s ranked fourth in the country.

TCU's Trevone Boykin has been nothing short of spectacular this season and has been the reason TCU remains undefeated as we head into the second half of the season.

He’ll have another chance to strengthen his hold on the No. 2 spot this week against a West Virginia defense that held him to a season-low 166 yards a year ago.

Corey Coleman’s work through Baylor’s first seven games has been dynamic. However, news that quarterback Seth Russell will miss the rest of the season with a neck injury could diminish Coleman’s chances of making a trip to New York.

The Bears have a bye this week before facing Kansas State on Nov. 5. It will be interesting to see whether the Bears stick with the pass-first gameplan or lean on their running game.

Stanford's Christian McCaffrey flew under the radar early, but after gaining at least 200 rushing/receiving yards in three of his past four games, the sophomore running back is quickly emerging as a viable Heisman contender.

McCaffrey, who is also a big reason why the Cardinal have won six consecutive games by double digits, leads the nation in all-purpose yards with 259.7 yards per game.

Florida State's Dalvin Cook has been the main reason why Florida State has had so much success this season, but his production in last week’s loss to Georgia Tech raised questions about Cook’s health since he’s been dealing with a hamstring injury.

Cook only had six touches in the second half against the Yellow Jackets, but he did finish the game with 82 rushing yards and a touchdown, and 52 receiving yards.
