Harbaugh, Michigan staff to guest coach at Alabama, Texas camps

Michigan football is heading down south.

Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff will be guest coaches at football camps in Alabama and Texas in June, per Mlive.com.

First, the coaches will head down to Prattville, Ala., on June 5 to assist with a camp held at Prattville High School before appearing at the Showtyme Elite Football Camp in Dallas the following week on June 9.

Much like Penn State did in Georgia and Florida last summer, these trips give Michigan the chance to make appearances in two of the country’s most fertile recruiting areas. Prospects from these areas may not be able to make it to a camp up in Ann Arbor, so the Wolverines coaches are making themselves (and the program) accessible.

The NCAA actually forbids schools from running camps more than 50 miles away from their campus, but since Michigan’s coaches are slated to be guests, they are not breaking any rules.

When Penn State head coach James Franklin left Vanderbilt for Penn State and started to set up these recruiting camps, it caused a stir among SEC coaches. SEC coaches are not permitted to be guests at another’s school’s camps and many voiced concerns that others would follow Franklin’s lead.

Harbaugh clearly has.
