Former Texas Longhorn Darius James is reportedly headed to the SEC.

According to AuburnSports.com, James, a 6-foot-5, 304-pound offensive lineman, told head coach Gus Malzahn Sunday morning that he will transfer to Auburn in the summer.

James, who visited Auburn’s campus this weekend, will have to sit out the 2015 season due to the NCAA’s transfer rules, but will be eligible to compete for the Tigers in 2016 as a redshirt junior.

“We came down and really had a nice time,” Robert Hagey, James’ high school coach, told AuburnSports.com. “It’s what Darius is looking for and we felt comfortable with it, so he made his decision and went ahead and told coach Malzahn and (offensive line) coach Grimes this morning at breakfast that he wanted to be an Auburn Tiger.”

James made his decision to transfer from Texas earlier this month after playing in six games as a redshirt freshman. James made two starts at right tackle against Baylor and Oklahoma, but went down with a knee injury and missed the rest of the season.

James, a native of Killeen, Texas, was rated by Rivals as the top center in the 2013 recruiting class by Rivals. Overall, Rivals rated James as the 65th-best player in the class.

Per AuburnSports.com, James plans to arrive at Auburn for its second summer semester, which begins on June 23.
