Footage shows punch that led to Florida State QB's arrest (Video)

A week after Florida State quarterback De’Andre Johnson was formally charged with battery, the Florida State Attorney’s office released security footage of the incident that led to the charge.

Johnson, a freshman who was suspended indefinitely by the program, is accused of punching a woman in the face at a bar on June 24. The security footage, which was obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat, appears to backs up that claim.

The footage shows the victim, a 21-year-old female FSU student, and Johnson approaching the bar at nearly the same time. The woman reaches the bar first with Johnson just behind her, and the two appear to jostle for position at the bar.

Johnson tries to push his way forward past the woman, who then turns toward him with a cocked fist. Johnson grabs her fist and the two push one another for a few seconds before the woman throws a punch at Johnson. Johnson then responds with punch of his own, connecting to the side of the woman’s face. He then leaves the bar area.

After viewing this security footage, State Attorney Willie Meggs decided to charge the 19-year-old Johnson with misdemeanor battery.

Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher suspended Johnson indefinitely on June 25. Johnson, a four-star recruit from Jacksonville, enrolled at FSU in January and was not considered a candidate to start for the Seminoles next season.
