Less than a year after five-star defensive end Josh Sweat suffered a serious knee injury, he is expected to play for Florida State in the Seminoles’ season opener against Texas State.

Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher said Thursday that Sweat, who suffered a torn ACL and dislocated kneecap in September, hasn’t missed a single practice during fall camp.

“He’ll play. He’s healthy enough to play,” Fisher said per the Tallahassee Democrat. “He hasn’t missed a practice. Nothing. Havent seen one thing (slow him down) and am very blessed with that.”

Sweat, a native of Chesapeake, Va., was rated as the top player in Virginia and the No. 34 overall prospect by Rivals in the 2015 recruiting class.

Sweat enrolled early at FSU in January and missed all of spring practice due to the injury. He was once considered a long shot to suit up at all for the Seminoles in 2015. Now, there’s a chance he could start in the opener with sophomore Lorenzo Featherston on the mend from arthroscopic knee surgery.

Redshirt junior Chris Casher, another defensive end, also recently had arthroscopic knee surgery but returned to practice this week.

Fisher said Casher “may be ready” for the Texas State game.
