Elijah Daniel to play at Murray State, not Youngstown State

Former Auburn defensive end Elijah Daniel will not be playing at Youngstown State in 2015. Instead, he'll be at Murray State.

The Racers announced Tuesday that Daniel will be playing for them this season. Since Murray State is an FCS school, he's eligible immediately.

"I believe in second chances and last chances," Murray State head coach Mitch Stewart said in a statement. "I have told Elijah that we are willing to give him this opportunity, because I believe, large or small, everyone makes mistakes and most people are deserving of a second chance. But I also made it clear to him, that this is his last chance and that any further incidents like the one at Auburn would be met with an immediate dismissal from the team."

Daniel was dismissed from Auburn in May after he was arrested for burglary. He was arrested with two others after an investigation into spring break burglaries in the Auburn dorms. He was charged with four counts of theft and the case was sent to a grand jury earlier in July.

His decision to go to Youngstown State and play for former Nebraska coach Bo Pelini was made public two weeks ago. However, Pelini said earlier this week that it was "50-50" that Daniel would join the team at all because of issues with the NCAA.

Those issues were apparently resolvable at Murray State.

"I am beyond grateful to Coach Stewart, [Murray State athletic director Allen Ward] and President Davies for giving me another opportunity to play this game I love and receive an education," Daniel said in Murray State's statement. "While I have learned from my mistakes and vow not to repeat them, I have further learned the value of not putting myself into situations that are beneath the kind of person I strive to be."

Daniel had 15 tackles and a sack as a sophomore in 2014.
