Dorial Green-Beckham releases statement, says he will enter counseling

It has been a rough week for Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham. Green-Beckham, Missouri’s leader in receptions and touchdowns last season, was suspended indefinitely by head coach Gary Pinkel for a violation of team rules after he was investigated for an incident that occurred last Sunday.

On Thursday, Columbia Police announced that Green-Beckham would not be arrested and on Friday Green-Beckham’s adoptive father released a written statement from Dorial to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to “take responsibility for (his) conduct and mistakes.”

The statement, in full, reads:

“First and most importantly, I take responsibly for my conduct and my mistakes. Don’t blame my girlfriend or her friends for anything. I am not looking for sympathy. I thank those who have given me concern. I have been young and dumb. I want to be better. During my suspension I’m entering counseling. With help, I know I can be stronger emotionally and spiritually. My relationship with God, my family, friends, teammates and coaches are most important in my life, not football. It may not be possible to fix everything, but it won’t be for not trying. — Dorial Green-Beckham"

According to the incident report, Green-Beckham was looking for his girlfriend when he forced his way into the apartment of his girlfriend’s acquaintance. The report also stated that Green-Beckham pushed a female and caused “her to fall down at least four stairs,” which caused an injury to the woman’s hand. She told police that she did not want to press charges because “she was afraid of the media and community backlash.”

This is the third time Green-Beckham has run into trouble since arriving at Missouri. He was suspended for a game in 2012 after a marijuana possession charge, a charge that was dropped after he pled guilty to a reduced charge of trespassing. He also was arrested on Jan. 10 for being a passenger in a car that was found to have a pound of marijuana. He was never charged in that case after police determined the drugs did not belong to him.
