Clemson K Ammon Lakip charged with DUI and cocaine possession

Clemson kicker Ammon Lakip was arrested on June 6 for cocaine possession and DUI.

According to an incident report obtained by TigerNet.com, Lakip was arrested after an officer saw him unable to keep his car in the assigned lane in the early morning.

As I spoke with the driver I requested that he produce his driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance. At which time the driver asked several times, with a blank gaze and labored speech, why he had been pulled over though I had already explained to him the reason for the stop. The driver had trouble paying attention and had to be asked several times for the vehicle information as if he were unable to stay focused on simple direction. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle and asked if he had any injuries. It should be noted that the driver had the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage about his breath and person. The driver listed several injuries including back, shoulder, and ankle injuries. Note that the driver did not seem to have trouble standing or walking normally on his feet while out of the vehicle. The driver also stated that he did not wear contacts and that he was on medications for the above stated injuries. The driver then agreed to take the standardized field sobriety testing and the tests were administered.

He then was assessed a field sobriety test. According to the report he had trouble following instructions and walking in a straight line. 0.4 grams of cocaine was allegedly found in a container of lip balm.

Lakip was officially charged on June 11 per the public listing of the charges. The cocaine possession is listed as a first offense, which is a misdemeanor. He was released on bond after he was booked into jail. Clemson has suspended him indefinitely.

He was a Lou Groza Award semifinalist in 2014. Lakip was 21-28 on field goals and 43-44 on extra points in 2014 and is set to be a redshirt senior in 2015. The Tigers have four other kickers listed on the roster, though only two – punter Bradley Pinion and Corbin Jenkins – have kicked in a game. Both attempted extra points against South Carolina State in 2014.
