Chuckie Keeton joining Oregon State coaching staff
Chuckie Keeton is becoming a college football coach.
Oregon State announced Wednesday that Keeton, the former Utah State quarterback, and former Utah State offensive lineman Funaki Asisi would be members of the footbal staff in an unnamed capacity.
Asisi recently served as a graduate assistant for two seasons at Utah State following the conclusion of his playing career in 2011. Keeton had a briefly dynamic and injury-prone career at Utah State that ended after the 2015 season.
“I’m very thankful that Coach [Gary] Andersen and Oregon State has presented me this opportunity,” Keeton said in a team statement. “I’m excited to be able to contribute to the growth of the school, program and the football team in whatever capacity possible."

Andersen coached both players at Utah State before heading to Wisconsin. He left Wisconsin before the 2015 season to take the head coaching job at Oregon State.
Keeton was an all-WAC quarterback in 2012 when he threw for over 3,300 yards and rushed for over 600 yards. But the next three seasons were plagued by knee injuries and he was never the same quarterback. He tore his left ACL and MCL against BYU in 2013 and attempted to return for the 2014 season.
He re-injured his left knee early in the 2014 season and missed the rest of the year. His 2015 season was then derailed by a sprained MCL in his right knee.
Coincidentally, one of the quarterbacks who replaced Keeton in 2014 is now Oregon State's starting quarterback. Darell Garretson transferred to Oregon State last year and was named the team's starter after spring practices.
