Bo Pelini reportedly dissed athletic director in meeting with former Nebraska players

Bo Pelini does not have kind words for his former superiors at Nebraska.

According to the Omaha World-Herald, Pelini had scathing words for Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst when meeting with players on December 2. The meeting was Pelini's first time with the players after he was fired as Nebraska's coach following the final game of Nebraska's regular season.

From the World-Herald:

“A guy like (Eichorst) who has no integrity, he doesn’t even understand what a core value is," Pelini told players. "And he hasn’t understood it from the day he got here. I saw it when I first met with the guy.

“To have core values means you have to be about something, you have to represent something, you have to have something that is important to you. He is a f------ lawyer who makes policies. That’s all he’s done since he’s been here is hire people and make policies to cover his own ass.”

Via the audio, Pelini also had this to say:

“I didn't really have any relationship with the A.D.,” Pelini said. “The guy, you guys saw him (Sunday), the guy is a total p----. I mean, he is, and he's a total c---.”

Deadspin has what it says is the complete (and uncensored) transcript of Pelini's remarks to his players.

Nebraska released a statement Wednesday afternoon and said while it couldn't immediately confirm the authenticity of the remarks, if they were made by Pelini, his statements reaffirm the university's decision to terminate him.

It's not the first time a rant with profanity of Pelini's has been recorded and distributed. In 2013, audio of a 2011 tirade of Pelini's about Nebraska fans was leaked. After the release of the audio, Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman said he was disappointed about it and met with athletic director Eichorst. At the time, Eichorst said he talked with Pelini and expressed the administration's "deep concern."

In his introductory press conference at Youngstown State on Wednesday, Pelini had some nice words for university president Jim Tressel at the expense of Nebraska.

"I love to coach football, I love to serve kids that I coach and I believe that I have a great situation here," Pelini said. "I have a tremendous athletic director, a president who understands football who's going to support me – something that I don't know if I've ever head. I have a great administration and a community that I believe in wholeheartedly."

While he knew he was on the record Wednesday, maybe Pelini should start checking areas at Youngstown State for microphones or tape recorders if he's going to say something remotely controversial that he thinks may be off the record.

At Nebraska, Pelini had a 67-27 record and won nine games in each of his seven seasons with the school, though it wasn't enough to make up for a fractured relationship with administration.

Tressel, the former Ohio State coach, became YSU's president in 2014. He was the football coach at Youngstown State before becoming the coach at Ohio State. Pelini is a native of Youngstown, Ohio, and is back coaching in the town for the first time since he was a coach at Cardinal Mooney High School in 1993.
