Arkansas State auctions its spring game head coaching position for $11,700

Arkansas State has found itself a new coach for its spring football game.

A week ago, the Red Wolves Foundation put the spot up for bid on eBay and had few takers until the stunt went national and the bidding began.

The coaching experience, which includes a Powerade bath at the end of the game, opened at $2,500 and finished at $11,700. Yay for the booster club.

There were 59 total bids and 16 total bidders. Identity of the winning bidder has not yet been revealed, but we’ll know soon considering Arkansas State’s spring game is on Friday.

Here’s what the lucky bidder won according to the auction description:

Your Coaching Experience will include:

• Head Coach for the game on Friday, April 18.

• Give the pregame and halftime talk.

• You choose whether your team 'goes for it' or punts on 4th down.

• You get to call for the deep ball, trick play, run or pass, blitz, etc.

• On headset with the staff throughout the entire game.

• Winning Coach will receive a Powerade bath (and bragging rights)!

• Photos of your Coaching Experience.

• Coaching Gear.

Not a bad deal for the low, low price of what amounts to almost four semesters in-state tuition at Arkansas State. And hey, coach Blake Anderson seems pretty excited to hand the reins of his team over for a few hours.

Who knows, the way the Arkansas State coaching carousel has gone this lucky winner could be the head coach in one of the Big 5 conferences next year.
