Alabama A&M star DB Danny Johnson killed in car crash

Alabama A&M sophomore defensive back Danny Johnson was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning.

Johnson, 20, was a passenger in a 2011 Kia that collided head-on with a 1999 Dodge pickup truck shortly after 8 a.m. According to Alabama State Troopers, Johnson was not wearing his seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of both vehicles also were injured. The wreck is currently under investigation.

Johnson was a two-year starter at A&M and was second on the team with 30 solo tackles and four pass breakups last season.

"It is with great sadness that we share the tragic news of Danny's passing,” coach James Spady said. “He and his brother DeVon were two of our first signees.

"Danny was an important member of our football family and a fine student. We ask everyone to join us in prayer for his family and keep them in your thoughts in this time of sadness.”
