Miami poked fun at Duke with team-wide floor slap late in second half

Anyone who watched the entirety of Miami's 90-63 rout of Duke on Wednesday night may have noticed the Hurricanes relish in poking fun at the top-ranked Blue Devils late in the second half.

All five Miami players slapped the floor at virtually the same time on defense with 6:45 left in the game and the Hurricanes leading by 28, a not-so-subtle way of mocking the gesture made famous by the Blue Devils earlier in Mike Krzyzewski's tenure.

Apparently, the Miami players didn't come up with the idea for the jab on their own — they had some help from a famous face in the crowd. Point guard Shane Larkin told the Florida Sun-Sentinel he was shooting free throws on the previous possession when he heard someone seated courtside shouting his name.

"It was Warren Sapp," Larkin said. "He was like like 'slap the floor on D."

It's no surprise Sapp was the instigator considering his reputation for trash talk. The former Miami and NFL defensive lineman devoted a lengthy section of his autobiography "Sapp Attack" to the barbs he and Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre would trade during games.

Miami earned the right to crow a little bit Wednesday night with the outcome long since decided, but the Hurricanes might have been wise to hold off. They'll visit Duke on March 2, and there's little doubt the Blue Devils will have watched the team-wide floor slap on film that week to fuel their quest for revenge.
