Mad Dash: Dale Jr.'s girlfriend scolds him over lottery ticket

Millions, likely billions, of people dream of winning the lottery someday. It turns out, even millionaires dream of winning the lottery, too. Dale Earnhardt Jr. picked up a quick pick Powerball ticket during his media tour in New York City before the Daytona 500, along with other members of his crew, and did not get a warm reception from girlfriend Amy Reimann when she found out.

"Amy got mad at me," he said Wednesday at [Daytona International Speedway], where teams are making preparations for Thursday night's Budweiser Duel qualifying races. "She's like, 'What the hell are you buying a Powerball ticket for? You don't need to be winning it.'

"And I promised her right then I would split half with a charity. She made me feel pretty bad."

By the way, Earnhardt won $12 with that ticket by getting the Powerball. No word on whether half of that went to charity, but it also wouldn't make a dent compared to the other charities Earnhardt is involved in each year.

Note to tennis players (or any athlete, for that matter): Don't leave your motivational notes behind when you leave the field or arena of play. Even if they aren't embarrassing or controversial, those who find it will find a way to entertain themselves and/or others with whatever is written. That's what Andy Murray found out when he left behind his psych-up sheet on a bench after a match. Lesson learned.

When a teammate does something controversial, the last thing you want to do is add fuel to the fire with your own quotes. That's the position Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee found himself in after Cole Hamels told reporters he'd like to be traded. Lee's solution when asked about Hamels? Turn to the Magic 8 Ball for guidance. It made for a pretty entertaining press conference.
