Video: Clippers announcer can’t believe J.J. Barea pulled a former Miss Universe

I am hurt, Ralph Lawler. I mean, I know you are very busy being the widely beloved voice of the Los Angeles Clippers, as well as a very famous social media celebrity whose awesome catchphrase is his Twitter handle. It's hard to find the time sometimes; I get it.

But then I tune in to watch your call of the Clippers taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night, and when broadcast partner Michael Smith mentions that J.J. Barea is intimately involved with a former Miss Universe, you make it very clear that you didn't read my associate Eric Freeman's dynamic breakdown of Barea's relationship with Zuleyka Rivera last season? Wow. I mean, I thought you and BDL were bros. This how you do us, Ralph? Cold-blooded.

As my esteemed colleague Angela Sun noted in Wednesday's Yahoo! Sports Minute, Smith mistakenly identified Barea and Rivera — who was named Miss Puerto Rico in 2006, then went on to take the crown of Miss Universe later that year — as married; they are not. But the couple did just have their first child, a boy named Sebastian Jose, on Feb. 18, making Jose "Juan Lucky Guy," indeed. (By the way, belated congratulations from Team BDL, J.J. and Zule! Lawler's shock at the fact that Barea could get together with one of the most beautiful women in the world seems to ignore that J.J. is, y'know, a successful pro athlete, a pretty good-looking (albeit short) dude and something of a hero to many of his fellow Puerto Ricans. Plus, he tends to smile a lot and his grill isn't busted. Chicks dig that.

On the court, Barea had six points, seven assists and three rebounds to go with his one astounded announcer in the Minnesota Timberwolves' 109-97 road victory over the Clippers on Tuesday. Reserve forwards Michael Beasley and Derrick Williams led the way for the Wolves, pouring in 27 points apiece off the Minnesota bench.
