10-man rotation: What it takes to be a great NBA broadcaster

A look around the league and the web that covers it. It's also important to note that the rotation order and starting nods aren't always listed in order of importance. That's for you, dear reader, to figure out.

C: New York Times. A fantastic profile of the work (some) NBA play-by-play announcers feel the need to put in prior to every broadcast, focused around three of the current greats: Cleveland’s Fred McLeod, Indiana’s Mark Boyle, and the absolutely brilliant Pete Pranica. If you’re lucky enough to have NBA League Pass on the visual and audio end of things, you know that this is a marvelous time to be a fan of this league. Night after night, we have these professionals to thank.
PF: Hardwood Paroxysm. As we discussed earlier on Monday, David Blatt needs to start coaching in the manner that he has in his pre-NBA past, and the Cavaliers need to show patience with their rookie coach.
SF: Triangle Offense. Russ Bengtson with an expertly-penned column about how Phil Jackson always makes it about himself, even while preaching selflessness and a goal unseen to those working in the moment.
SG: Bucksketball. Larry Sanders has returned to his old (borderline-dominant) ways defensively, but holy lord does this guy have to start finishing better around the rim.
PG: NBA.com. More reminders about how fantastic Ian Thomsen is as a writer, how wonderful the Memphis Grizzlies and the Gasol brothers are as people, why Danny Thomas was such a lovely person, and why St. Jude’s can use any bit of free change you might having lying around after your holiday bonanza.
6th: ESPN.com. This is an Insider piece, but if you have the service this peek into Andre Miller’s basketball genius is well worth your time.
7th: Pro Basketball Talk. In a rough, rough season, out of nowhere Shabazz Muhammad has come through with one of the warming basketball turnarounds that we can remember. Dan Feldman recounts the second-year comeback of one of the more entertaining players to watch in this league.
8th: Golden State of Mind. On David Lee’s slow introduction into Golden State’s new’ish offensive schemes.
9th: SB Nation. Kobe Bryant is, on paper and in a lot of ways, hurting the Lakers with his play. Overall, though, things seem pretty evened out and awful in the final estimation. Still, dude’s got to get his game together.
10th: Celtics Blog. Another recount of how terribly, terribly screwed up Billy King is as an NBA general manager.
