And now, a next-gen gameplay trailer for ‘NBA Live 14′ (Video)

After 2K Sports made a splash Thursday with by releasing a video snippet from its forthcoming release of "NBA 2K14" for the yet-to-be-released next-generation PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, EA came back Friday by following up its previous brief trailer for its next-gen return to the pro hoops video game scene, "NBA Live 14," with a longer look-see at what's in store for those who purchase the game after its Nov. 19 release.

Without further ado:

The spot highlights what the game's producers have promoted as a heightened emphasis on ball-handling based on "BounceTek," a new physics-based dribbling system that separates ball from hand in each individual dribbling animation. The makers claim this will allow for more individual creativity in attempting to maneuver around defenders. (In a related story, all the players in the so-called "NBA Live Family," who suited up for motion-capture sessions and provided "input and feedback" to the developers, were ball-handling guards: cover-boy Irving, reigning Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard, recently maxed-out Wizard John Wall, Bobcats lead guard Kemba Walker, Timberwolves magician Ricky Rubio, and Magic rookie Victor Oladipo.)

EA's betting on the revamped ball-handling physics (and the presence of the Ultimate Team mode that has appeared in its other titles) to win the hearts of fans who've been burned by the "Live" series before and who might find some of the other facets — the overall graphics, the dunk animations, the player face scans, etc. — somewhat lacking when compared to 2K's offering. The early returns on whether fan sentiment will swing EA's way on that score appear to be, at best, mixed.
