Nick Young mistakenly thought the trade deadline was Wednesday

The trade deadline is a complicated time for any NBA player deemed inessential to a contender. Anyone can be dealt at any time, which creates understandable anxiety for players and their loved ones. The arrival of the deadline can be a relief for those who hoped against hope to stay in their current cities.

Count Nick Young among that group. The Los Angeles Lakers wing is from the city and has built a strong celebrity profile with the club, to the point where it would be difficult to imagine him playing his trade in any other town. Young was very happy to learn that he would not be leaving the Lakers.

Unfortunately, he believed himself to be in the clear on Wednesday, not the actual trade deadline on Thursday:

I cannot think of a more Nick Young approach to the trade deadline. His relief is palpable and sincere, but also misplaced and premature. No one has ever accused him of holding excellent judgment.

At any rate, we're glad Young made it through Thursday, as well. Plus, if he had been traded, he probably would have figured out a way to show up a day late.
