Draymond Green is selling 'Cool story, Glenn' T-shirts

Draymond Green's going to make boatloads of money in restricted free agency this summer. Whether the money comes from one of the many teams flush with cap space eager to add a Defensive Player of the Year-caliber stopper who can also pass and shoot, or from the Golden State Warriors, the league-leading squad for whom he's proven this season he can do all that and more, it's going to come. (Warriors co-owner Joe Lacob has made it clear he expects to go "very likely very substantially" into the luxury tax next year, implying the Dubs plan to match any offer for their starting power forward's services.)

For now, though, Green's still a second-round pick finishing out a bargain-basement three-year rookie deal. And since a young fella's got to eat, and there's no shame in having a side hustle no matter what kind of day job you've got, Draymond has found himself entering the fashion business:

Yep, that's right. The 25-year-old burgeoning entrepreneur has started selling T-shirts emblazoned with the phrase, "Cool story, Glenn," which he made famous during a radio interview earlier this month.

The cool story behind "Cool story," in case you missed it the first time around:

After scoring 23 points and dishing six assists to help the Warriors score a 106-98 win over the Los Angeles Clippers — a team for whom, you'll recall, Golden State does not exactly have a whole lot of warm feelings — Green was tabbed for a post-game interview with ABC's Lisa Salters, and for a mid-interview bump by Clippers reserve Dahntay Jones:

Later, in the Warriors' locker room, Green offered his response, a smirking index finger pointed in the direction of the "minutes" column of the stat sheet:

Jones later received a $10,000 fine for the bump, which stunned Clippers coach Doc Rivers, according to Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times:

Rivers was incredulous when he watched replay footage later in the day.

"Wow, that was such a violent bump!" Rivers deadpanned. "I'm telling you. It was amazing. I told Dahntay, 'You've got to be careful. That was too hard.' I guess that tough guy at Golden State, I mean, I think the bump was too hard for him, clearly, the way he reacted."

Informed of Rivers' comments, Green offered the immortal response during an interview on KNBR: "Cool story, Glenn. I'm done with that situation, man [...] I don't have no reason to worry about what Glenn has to say."

Doc got a kick out of Draymond's reply — "It makes me happy that I could get someone mad," he said — and the issue died down ... until Green received a business proposition, according to Diamond Leung of the Bay Area News Group:

“I approved it,” Green said Friday, the morning after the release of the line of “Cool Story, Glenn” shirts on Athlete Originals that includes three different designs. “A lot of fans kept asking me for it, so the person who runs my store thought that it would be a good idea.

“They sent me the design. I approved.”

Green’s “Cool Story, Glenn” gear cost $45 for hoodies and $25 for T shirts. Green said that the recent back-and-forth exchange with the division rival coach Rivers was something that was fun for him.

“It’s not for a lack of respect,” Green said. “I respect him. It’s fun. Throughout the course of the season, you find things that’s funny. You have to. It’s just fun. It’s no disrespect.”

Well, it might not be, like, full of respect, but it is indeed pretty funny. Way to go, Draymond. I firmly support people getting that good basketball-joke money.

In what we're sure is a totally unrelated story, the Warriors will head to Staples Center next Tuesday night for their fourth and final regular-season meeting with the Clippers. That means there's plenty of time for any Golden State fans either in L.A. or planning to make the trip to get laced in CSG gear, and for Steve Ballmer's crack marketing and merchandising crews to get to work on a riposte. We eagerly await the publication of the newest chapter in this still-developing cool story.
