Jorina Baars beats MMA's 'Cyborg' Justino in kickboxing bout

For some reason on Friday night, a near 40-fight pro kickboxing champion fought a 2-0 kickboxing newcomer in Las Vegas at Lion Fight 14, and the bout went like one would have assumed such a mismatch would have gone (video below).

MMA champion Cris "Cyborg" Justino took on world champion kickboxer Jorina Baars in just her third professional kickboxing bout ever and lost a lopsided decision after five rounds.                                                                                                                                                                                                                      From the start, "Cyborg" took a beating at the hands, knees and shins of Baars, with the Dutch champion knocking Justino down (and seemingly, if quickly, out) three times in the first three rounds. Seconds into the fight, Baars hit Justino with a front kick that momentarily put the MMA champ out and on the canvas.

Later in the round, the lengthy Dutch fighter connected with a high kick on Justino's head that stiffened "Cyborg" and felled her. In the third round, Baars connected, uncontested, with a knee to the jaw of Justino, sending the Brazilian reeling backwards to the ropes and mat.

Noted boxing referee Tony Weeks did not appear to know what he was watching and only gave the Brazilian a count in one of those instances, however. For her part, "Cyborg" never relented and was aggressive with wild but powerful punches throughout the bout.

Justino had perhaps her best round in the fourth, landing two huge superman punches to the head of Baars. It didn't take long for the experienced fighter out of Holland to strike back in the fifth and final round, however.

Less than a minute into the final period, Baars connected with a spinning back kick to the midsection of Justino that dropped the MMA fighter. This time, Weeks properly gave Justino a count and recognized the knock down.

Despite being put down for a fourth time, "Cyborg" went back to work, trying to turn the fight into a brawl all the way until the final bell. In the end, her game efforts were not enough to secure a win and all three judges scored the contest for Baars.

Scores were 49-45, 48-45  49-44, all for Baars. The judges got the right person but also had trouble recognizing and scoring take downs when they happened, as evidenced by their marks.                                                                                                                                                                                                       With the win, Baars became the Lion Fight welterweight champion.
