The Cubs celebrated Wrigley Field's 100th birthday with a 400-pound cake

The Chicago Cubs are having one heck of a birthday party Wednesday, celebrating 100 years of Wrigley Field. They enlisted character actors dressed like it's 1914, dressed both teams in throwback uniforms and handed out free cupcakes and replica jerseys to fans.

But as everybody knows, it's not a birthday party if there's not a birthday cake. The Cubs got a pretty memorable one. The team hired celebrity baker Buddy Valastro, best known from the "Cake Boss" reality show, and his team at Carlo's Bakery in New Jersey to make a 400-pound cake that resembled Wrigley.

When you're calling this the "Party of the Century," as the Cubs are, you better come correct, and it looks like the Cubs have. According to Danny Ecker of Crain's Chicago Business, the cake took six days to make, with four people working on it. It's four feet by five feet and "mostly edible."

The Cubs had the cake on display outside the park before Wednesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It will then be on display at the Bricks and Ivy Ball. Guests at the $600-per-ticket ball — held after the game at Chicago's Field Museum — will get to eat it.

Here's hoping someone sends a slice to Sammy Sosa.
