Report: MLB to take over NHL's web operations starting in 2016

Congratulations, baseball fans, your sport has the best digital media of the big four. Don't just take our word for it, though. On Tuesday, Major League Baseball will announce a partnership with the National Hockey League.

According to DJ Bean of WEEI, that announcement will focus on MLB Advanced Media taking over the NHL's web apps.

MLBAM already hosts streaming for a number of services outside the baseball realm, according to WEEI, so this won't be anything new for the company.

Overall, the way baseball is presented online won't be impacted by the news. If anything, the announcement confirms that MLB is doing things properly when it comes to their digital media and presentation.

Not every fan will agree with that statement. MLB can be protective of its product. A number of fans have had their Vine accounts shut down by MLB after posting gifs of in-game action. On top of that, a number of games get blacked out on MLB.TV, sometimes in areas that don't really make sense.

Despite those issues, MLB's digital product is considered the cream of the crop. Aside from the blackouts, MLB.TV has been a huge success. MLB.com also has a useful video archive with relevant clips.

Is everything perfect? No. But is it better than what most sports offer? Probably.

The partnership will be announced Tuesday during a joint press conference. Both Rob Manfred and Gary Bettman are expected to be in attendance.

Don't fret, baseball fans, your product won't change at all following the news. Hockey wants to be more like baseball, at least in the way it presents itself online.

If you're a fan of both sports, this is a good thing. If you just like baseball, you'll continue to receive more of the same.
