Report: Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto thinking about resigning

The rift between Los Angeles Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto and manager Mike Scioscia may have already been resolved. To no one's surprise, it looks like Scioscia came out on top.

Dipoto is reportedly considering resigning, according to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com. The team would not confirm Gonzalez's report, but a source told him "it's possible" when asked whether Dipoto was leaving the club.

If Dipoto isn't resigning, he certainly acted weird following Tuesday's game.

Rosenthal also couldn't confirm whether Dipoto was out for sure, and said it's possible the GM may have acted out of emotion.

All of this came after owner Arte Moreno showed up in the clubhouse following the team's win.

Early on Tuesday, our own Tim Brown, said the rift between the two men was "irreparable." Given Scioscia's status with the club, it's not a surprise that he was able to come out on top in this particular battle.

Typically, general manager hold more weight within an organization than the on-field manager. With the Angels, that's not the case. Scioscia has managed the club for 16 seasons, and commands a great deal of respect with the franchise.

During his tenure Scioscia has led the team to the playoffs seven times. He won a World Series with the club in 2002. Scioscia has also been named the American League Manager of the Year twice.

Dipoto is only in his fourth season with the club, and though he's had some success, he's doesn't carry the same weight as Scioscia. And would probably never reach that level.

To add to all the madness, Yahoo's Jeff Passan reports some of the players believed Dipoto was out as the team's general manager prior to Tuesday's game.

The team has yet to comment on the news.

For now, things don't look promising for Dipoto. Cleaning out your office is never a good thing, and, even if it was done out of emotion, that's still a bad look.

The Angels are still very much in the middle of the playoff race, and might lose their GM a few weeks before the trade deadline. That's not something we see very often.
