Play of the day: Dee Gordon’s dazzling dive

Los Angeles leadoff man Dee Gordon didn't have the best opener at the plate on Thursday, going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in the Dodgers' 5-3 victory over the Padres.

The speedy shortstop, however, left a positive lasting impression in our minds with a fourth-inning highlight that made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Watch what happens as Yonder Alonso's shot deflects off pitcher Josh Lindblom and heads toward center field for what looks like a sure single ....

Of course, what makes the whole clip even better is Dodgers broadcast Vin Scully describing it all on the microphone. Man, it's great to have baseball back.
