Minor league team to wear ugliest jersey in baseball, on purpose

Sometimes a good fashion idea loses its appeal once its manufactured. Other times, it was never a good idea to begin with. Either way, when a fashion statement misses the intended mark, it's an awkward and unfortunate moment for the person or group of people — like say, a minor league baseball team — who have invested in it or are required to wear it.

Fortunately for the Round Rock Express — Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers — that awkwardness won't exist when they pay tribute to Christmas in July. They're flat out telling us that the jerseys they plan to wear on Friday, July 24 are "hands-down the ugliest in baseball."

One thing we can't call the Express? Liars. Though ugly Christimas sweater jersey is a thing that's been done before in the minor leagues, never has it been done this spectacularly.

But that's not all the Express have planned for this season. This is just one of seven specialty jerseys that were announced this week, many of which are designed to raise awareness and funds for a specific charity.

For example, the Memorial Day military jerseys will be emblazoned with the names of 200 U.S. veterans and soldiers. The Express are asking fans right now to submit the name of a U.S. veteran or soldier to be selected for the honor. Then following the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting both Guardian for Heroes Foundation and Base Camp 40, Warriors in the Wild.

As for the ugly Christmas sweater jerseys, they too will be auctioned off following the game with proceeds benefiting Any Baby Can.

If you're anything like us, that's an investment you'll definitely want to make. Not only will you be a minor league hit at the family Christmas party, you'll have the satisfaction of helping a worthy cause. There are no losers in this scenario.
