Forget World Series Game 7, the gutsiest thing Madison Bumgarner did this year was reveal a wacky detail about his personal life to Sports Illustrated.

He once dated a girl who was also named Madison Bumgarner.

Hold on a second, collect yourself and we'll say it again. The San Francisco Giants ace and World Series MVP once dated someone with the same name as him.

With a name like Madison — which works for men and women — it wouldn't be totally weird if he dated another Madison. Or a Bumgarner, since his hometown is known as "Bumtown" because it has many Bumgarners.

But someone with the same first and last name? First, what are the odds? And second, how is that not a deal breaker?

Bumgarner told this tidbit to Tom Verducci in his Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year profile. Here's the relevant passage:

[H]e was so good so young that he started playing coach-pitch baseball at age four against seven-year-olds, and is so adept with either hand that he shoots a bow, bats, writes and ropes righthanded, but throws from the left side. That his father, Kevin, wouldn't let him throw a curveball until he had a driver's license. That before he dated Ali, he dated a girl named Madison Bumgarner ("No relation, I'm sure of it"). That he was married in a white, open-collar shirt and blue jeans while carrying a pocket-knife.

Around the time Bumgarner married Ali, he bought her a cow for her birthday, a fact that will live immortally in Bumgarner lore. They also took pictures like these.

We think we can all agree, the world is better off because Madison Bumgarner didn't fall in love with Madison Bumgarner.
