Let's take a trip through time and watch some of A-Rod's best home runs

New York Yankees infielder Alex Rodriguez has done it! With his home run in the eighth inning of Friday's game, Rodriguez has tied Willie Mays for fourth all-time on the home run list.

Rodriguez didn't start the contest, but was used as a pinch-hitter. The milestone hit came on a 94 mph fastball from Boston Red Sox reliever Junichi Tazawa.

Whether or not he accomplished it by legitimate means, 660 home runs is quite a lot. Let's take a trip through time and look at some of the more significant blasts in A-Rod's career.

FIRST HOME RUN

There's home run No. 1 of Rodriguez's career. It came against Tom Gordon in the fourth inning on a 3-2 curveball. The hit shortened the Seattle Mariners' deficit to four runs. They lost the contest 10-9. Rodriguez hit the blast June 12, 1995.

RODRIGUEZ JOINS THE 40/40 CLUB

In 1998, Rodriguez became only the third player in history to hit 40 home runs and have 40 steals in a single season. At the time, he joined Jose Canseco and Barry Bonds on the list. Since then, Alfonso Soriano is the only other player to repeat this feat. Rodriguez hit 42 home runs in 1998, the first of six straight seasons in which he crushed at least 40 bombs.

A-ROD CRUSHES AN EEPHUS

OK, maybe this one isn't significant. But you get to see Orlando Hernandez on the mound, and he throws two eephus pitches during the at-bat. That's a win in our book! Please note that Rodriguez is a member of the Texas Rangers at this point in his career. In seven seasons with Seattle, A-Rod hit 189 home runs.

RODRIGUEZ'S 14TH APRIL HOME RUN

With this dinger, Rodriguez tied a major-league record with his 14th April home run. He would go on to hit a league-high 54 homers that season, taking home his third MVP award. Rodriguez is a member of the New York Yankees in this clip. In three seasons with Texas, he hit an astounding 156 home runs.

No. 500

During that same season, Rodriguez mashed the 500th home run of his career. He wasted no time with this one, striking in the first inning against Royals pitcher Kyle Davies. Rodriguez reached base four times during the contest.

RODRIGUEZ PASSES MANTLE

With this blast, Rodriguez passed Yankees' legend Mickey Mantle on the all-time home run list. Mantle spent all 18 years of his playing career with New York. He hit 536 career home runs.

FIRST HOME RUN OF 2009

This home run is significant for a number of reasons. It was Rodriguez's first long ball since he admitted to using steroids with the Rangers. After apologizing for his use in February, A-Rod underwent hip surgery, delaying the start of his season. He hit a home run on the first pitch he saw in his first game back.

REPLAY CONFIRMS A-ROD'S WORLD SERIES BLAST

Rodriguez hit the first home run to ever be overturned by a replay during the postseason in the 2009 World Series. Rodriguez was an absolute monster during the team's 2009 run, hitting six home runs in the playoffs. Rodriguez hit .250/.423/.550 in 26 World Series plate appearances.

RODRIGUEZ'S FIRST HOME RUN OF 2013

Coming off hip surgery, Rodriguez was limited to just 44 games in 2013. His first home run came August 11, against the Detroit Tigers. Rodriguez had already received a 211-game suspension from commissioner Bud Selig, but was able to play while appealing the suspension. He hit just seven home runs in 2013.

FIRST BLAST OF 2015

After serving his 162-game suspension, Rodriguez returned to the Yankees ready to contribute in 2015. The 39-year-old showed he still has something left in the tank, hitting a solo shot against rookie Daniel Norris. Rodriguez has gotten off to a solid start this season, hitting .243/.376/.557 over 85 plate appearances.

While 762 may seem like a reach, Rodriguez remains 54 home runs away from tying Babe Ruth for third on the all-time list. He's under contract with the Yankees for two more seasons, and would have to keep producing at a strong rate if he wants to reach that plateau. Given his age, that seems unlikely, but we're talking about one of the most prodigious home run hitters of all time.
