Jon Lester's relationship with first base is still complicated

Throwing to first base is probably the most routine play in baseball. Unless you're Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester, that is.

Lester has a complicated history with throwing to first, and his latest adventure came during Chicago's game against Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon. Lester snared a Francisco Cervelli comebacker in the second inning, but the ball got stuck in the webbing of his glove.

Instead of trying to wedge the ball out, Lester took his glove off and tossed it to Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who dropped his own glove to catch Lester's and record the out. How did Lester know that would work? Somehow, the same exact thing happened to him last year.

Between challenges with groundball putouts and issues with pickoff throws, there's always something whacky that could happen when Lester has to throw to first.

The Cubs have built a deep and talented team that lacks a glaring weakness and is viewed as the World Series favorite. If Lester's weird relationship with first base is as bad as it's going to get for them, fans on the North Side of Chicago are in for one great summer.
