John Sterling dives out of the way as foul ball heads toward broadcast booth (Video)

There are two types of people in this world: Those who love the enthusiasm and bombast that comes out of John Sterling's mouth as he does the radio call for every New York Yankees game. And those who write his performance off as nothing more than blubbering bluster.

Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano — or maybe just the laws of physics? — would seem to be in the latter camp as a foul ball bore down on Sterling and Suzyn Waldman's broadcast booth at Tropicana Field on Monday. Luckily for the 6o- or 70-something broadcaster, the only result was a comical-sounding THUMP! as the ball hit his microphone and a pause for just a few seconds as Sterling quickly regrouped. Behind all those homeriffic home run calls — which are the main source for the divisive nature of his work, I'd guess — is a pro's pro.
